Cycleway near the Archives building (image taken December 2007, during construction)
"Stage 3" of the Alexandra Canal Cycleway, the section along the old State Archives Building (the longest blank wall in Sydney) was always expected to be the last section to be built, however there is good news at last.
Status:
The cycleway path in this section is now complete! It now has a very smooth asphalt finish and is looking good, though there is still no fencing. Construction was undertaken and funded entirely by Fuji-Xerox Australia, which is leasing just part of the old archives building. The City of Sydney required Fuji-Xerox to build the cycleway as part of its development application (DA).
Problem:
The sad part about this completed cycleway is that it exists in isolation, and doesn't join anywhere. There are currently no entry or exit points, so it can't yet be used. On the south end, the Durian building is preventing the completed Archives section of cycleway connecting to the Ricketty Street Bridge. The Durian building is within the City of Botany Bay Council area.
Solution:
Expedite the southern and northern connections to the new cycleway.
